Plebeius eroides (Frivaldszky, 1835)
Name in Tolman & Lewington (1997): Polyommatus eroides

Range: The C Balkan Peninsula, Poland, Slovakia (considered extinct), Belorussia, the steppes of E Europe and adjacent W Asia, Turkey.

Distribution in Bulgaria: Mostly the high mountains (Rila, Pirin, Alibotush, Vitosha, Stara Planina, W Rhodopi, Belasitsa) between 400 and 2400 m (chiefly 1000-2200 m) a.s.l. Also occurs at ca. 200 m in calcareous lowlands in NE Bulgaria.

Habitat: Open grassy and/or rocky places on slopes and peaks, in river valleys and along forest margins. Particularly abundant in calcareous terrain.

Bionomics: One generation from June till August. Larval host-plant: Genista depressa (Fabaceae) (Tolman & Lewington 1997).

Conservation status: A widespread and often abundant species of Bulgarian mountains. IUCN category: Lower risk, least concern.
