Range: N Africa, Europe, the Near East.
Distribution in Bulgaria: Practically everywhere from sea level to ca. 1700 m.
Habitat: Diverse warm open or forested places.
Bionomics: One long-lived generation from May till Octomber. Larval host-plants: grasses (Poaceae) (Tolman & Lewington 1997).
Conservation status: One of the most widespread and common butterflies in Bulgaria. IUCN category: Lower risk, least concern.
