Range: The Balkan Peninsula, W Turkey.
Distribution in Bulgaria: Very local in S Struma valley (Kresna Gorge, Sandanski) and Belasitsa near Petritch. Recently found in the warmest river valleys of E Rhodopi (Beshkov 1995). Most widespread along the S Black Sea coast.
Habitat: Dry, hot grassy and/or rocky glades in the vicinity of xerothermophytous oak forests.
Bionomics: In Bulgaria recorded in two, possibly three generations from April till September. Larval host-plants: various Rumex (Polygonaceae) (Tolman & Lewington 1997).
Conservation status: Rare and very local in Bulgaria. The coastal populations are threatened by the large-scale development and felling of oak forests during recent years. IUCN category: Vulnerable. The inclusion of this species in the Red Data Book of Bulgaria is herewith recommended.
