Range: Africa, tropical and, as a migrant, partly temperate Eurasia, Australia, Hawaii.

Distribution in Bulgaria: Does not have permanent popuations here - although it breeds regularly in suitable habitats, presumably it cannot survive winter in Bulgaria. This migrant may be found almost anywhere in the country, so far I have recorded it from sea level up to 1000 m.

Habitat: Typically dry, warm, open or semi-open flowery places, incl. species-poor ruderal wasteland in areas of agriculture and human habitation.

Bionomics: Number of generations unknown in Bulgaria, records span May to late Setember. Larval host plants: various Fabaceae; larvae feed on seeds (Tolman & Lewington 1997).

Conservation status: Of no concern, as this rare and sporadic species is not a permanent resident of the country. IUCN category: Lower risk, least concern.
