Gonepteryx farinosa (Zeller, 1847)
Range: S Balkan Peninsula, W and C Asia.
Distribution in Bulgaria: So far only known from the volcanic ridge Kozhukh in Struma valley.
Habitat: Arid hot rocky slopes with bushes of Paliurus spina-christi.
Bionomics: One generation, which flies from June to October and after hibernation in March and April. Larval host-plants: Paliurus spina-christi and Rhamnus (Rhamnaceae) (Tolman & Lewington 1997).
Conservation status: The distribution and status of this little known species in SW Bulgaria need further research. IUCN category: Data Deficient, probably Vulnerable. Its inclusion in the Red Data Book of Bulgaria is herewith recommended.
