Gonepteryx cleopatra (Linnaeus, 1767)
Range: The Mediterranean regions of N Africa, Europe and the Near East.
Distribution in Bulgaria: One vagrant specimen has been collected in the N foothills of Rhodopi near Kostenets (Ganev 1989). Does not have populations in Bulgaria. Possibly vagrant specimens occasionally enter the country from Greece along Struma valley.
Habitat: Dry, hot rocky places.
Bionomics: One generation which flies from June to October and after hibernation in March and April. Larval host-plant: Rhamnus (Rhamnaceae) (Tolman & Lewington 1997).
Conservation status: Of no concern, as this species is not part of the permanent fauna of Bulgaria. IUCN category: Lower risk, least concern.
