Range: S Europe from France to Ural; NW Turkey.
Distribution in Bulgaria: Lowlands and mountain foothills from sea level up to 700 m, specimens probably carried away by wind have been found up to 1900 m.
Habitat: Grassy bushy places.
Bionomics: One generation in April and May. Larval host-plant: Aristolochia (Aristolochiaceae).
Conservation status: Not directly threatened but of conservation interest in view of its limited total range. IUCN category: Lower risk, near threatened. Included in Appendix II of the Bern Convention (CITES).
