Pieris chloridice (Hübner, [1813])
Name in Tolman & Lewington (1997): Pontia chloridice
Range: C and E Balkan Peninsula, steppes of Eurasia from Ukraine and Turkey to Mongolia. Occasionally migrates from SE Europe reaching N to Finland
.Distribution in Bulgaria: Corresponds closely to that of the larval host-plant. So far known from the lower slopes of Stara Planina N of Sliven, the foothills of Belasitsa near Petritch, and the warmest river valleys of E Rhodopi. Up to ca. 600 m a.s.l.
Habitat: Hot, dry rocky places.
Bionomics: Two generations in April and June-July. Larval host-plant in Bulgaria and the Balkan Peninsula: Cleome ornithopodioides (Capparaceae) (Abadjiev 1994, Tolman & Lewington 1997).
Conservation status: This species has a very limited distribution in Bulgaria and its populations are relatively small. IUCN category: Vulnerable. Its inclusion in the Red Data Book of Bulgaria is herewith recommended.
