Plebeius icarus (Rottemburg, 1775)
Name in Tolman & Lewington (1997): Polyommatus icarus
Systematics: This aggregate taxon apparently consists of several different species, of which however very few have proven species status as yet, e.g. Plebeius andronicus (Kolev 2005b).
Range: Eurasia.
Distribution in Bulgaria: Widespread from sea level up to about 1900 m, occasionally strays higher.
Habitat: Diverse open grassy places.
Bionomics: Two or three generations depending on altitude, throughout the warm season. Larval host-plants: various Fabaceae.
Conservation status: One of the most widespread and common butterflies in Bulgaria. IUCN category: Lower risk, least concern.
