Nymphalis urticae (Linnaeus, 1758)
Name in Tolman & Lewington (1997): Aglais urticae
Range: Eurasia.
Distribution in Bulgaria: The whole country up to over 2900 m a.s.l.
Habitat: Not associated with any particular habitat type, can be met with virtually everywhere.
Bionomics: From one to three generations during the whole warm season, the adults of the last one hibernate and reappear next spring. Larval host-plant: Urtica (Urticaceae) (Tolman & Lewington 1997).
Conservation status: One of the most widespread and common butterflies in Bulgaria. IUCN category: Lower risk, least concern.
