Libythea celtis (Laicharting, 1782)
Range: N Africa, S Europe, S and C Asia to Japan.
Distribution in Bulgaria: Breeds in hot regions mainly in S Bulgaria and along the Black Sea coast up to 700 m a.s.l., but newly emerged specimens disperse widely, reaching up to 1400-1500 m a.s.l. before hibernation (personal observations).
Habitat: Dry, warm bushy and/or rocky places.
Bionomics: One generation which emerges in late June, hibernates and flies again next spring. Larval host-plant: Celtis (Ulmaceae) (Tolman & Lewington 1997).
Conservation status: Relatively widespread, highly mobile and and not threatened. IUCN category: Lower risk, least concern.
