Coenonympha leander (Esper, [1784])
Range: SE Europe from the Balkan Peninsula to Ural and Caucasus, Turkey to Iran and Transcaucasia.
Distribution in Bulgaria: Very local from sea level to ca. 1600 m (personal observations).
Habitat: Dry grassy and bushy places.
Bionomics: One generation from May till August. Larval host-plants: grasses (Poaceae) (Tolman & Lewington 1997).
Conservation status: A very local species, though probably not directly threatened. IUCN category: Lower risk, near threatened.
