Argynnis hecate ([Schiffermüller], 1775)
Name in Tolman & Lewington (1997): Brenthis hecate
Range: S and partly C Europe, W and C Asia to Altai.
Distribution in Bulgaria: Local in hilly lowlands and low mountains from sea level up to ca. 1200 m (Abadjiev 2001).
Habitat: Woodland margins and glades, river valleys, bushy slopes.
Bionomics: One generation from late April or May till August. Larval host-plant: Filipendula ulmaria (Rosaceae) (Tolman & Lewington 1997).
Conservation status: Does not seem directly threatened, but is local and in most localities known to me is relatively rare. IUCN category: Lower risk, near threatened?
