Range: Temperate and boreal Eurasia, N America.
Distribution in Bulgaria: The coniferous and subalpine zone of Rila, with single records from Pirin and W Rhodopi. From 1450 to 2200 m.
Habitat: Moist or boggy grassy glades and meadows in the vicinity of lakes, streams or rivers.
Bionomics: One generation in July. Rare. Larval host-plant: Viola (Tolman & Lewington 1997).
Conservation status: In Bulgaria this species occurs in a very limited area at the southernmost limit of its European range. Thus it is of high conservation interest, although probably not directly threatened at present. IUCN category: Vulnerable. Its inclusion into the Red Data Book of Bulgaria is herewith recommended.
